Conservation Commission Membership

2013 SB 102, relative to the selection of members of the conservation commission, passed in the Senate but failed in the House.

    • Would have allowed towns to elect, rather than to appoint, members;
    • Conservation Commission members are best selected based on their specialized set of knowledge and qualifications, rather than on popularity or for political reasons.
    • Many current members do not wish to run for office and would not volunteer if required to do so.
